First concert of the year with Pro Arte Voices tonight. It's a gorgeous programme, and if you need a respite from the August heat one of the pieces is all about the frozen north and the Aurora Borealis! It's choral air-conditioning!!
One of my very favorite British actors. Of course we'll always remember him as Siegfried Farnon in "All Creatures Great and Small," and as a superb Churchill, but in his younger days he was also brilliant as Henry V in the "Age of Kings" BBC Shakespeare series, which still stands up very, very well. So long, old chap. Requiescat in pace.
Today is the day to begin the novena to St. Clare of Assisi. And presented with such agreeable surroundings, what a good reminder to do so. I remember going out of my way to see Mother Angelica's shrine back in 2007. Drove about 250 miles out of my way to do it, and I've always been glad I did. Santa Clara, intercede pro nobis!
